The Arts and Culture track will touch on some of the “latest and greatest” in the world of artistic expression, as well as timeless ideas from classical works. Modern components include three of the nation’s leading literary voices, Edward P. Jones, Tobias Wolff, and Billy Collins; the iconic opera singer Jessye Norman; New York City Ballet’s Damian Woetzel to report on (with words and demos) the state of ballet in America; director Kenny Leon and actor Phylicia Rashad to weigh in on the legacy of August Wilson; and the multitalented Anna Deavere Smith playing varied roles throughout the Festival. Classical notes include reflections on Shakespeare, Auden, Moliere, and others, topped off with a musical recap of the 300–year history of the piano, illustrated in words and music by David Dubal and Jung Lin — all ample opportunities to switch on the other side of your brain, relax, explore, and enjoy.
