China: The Emerging Superpower? (July 2 - 5)

Sponsored by DHL, Inc.

China is in a state of tectonic transition, elevating it to one of the least well-resolved countries of consequence in the world. This track offers insights into this complex and often contradictory society that, with its focus on economic growth and political influence, may well challenge the lone position of the US for superpower status in the not-too-distant future. Sessions will cover China and human rights, the tensions and trends of contemporary Chinese society, burgeoning arts and culture movements in China, China’s environmental decisions and outlook, and the Chinese economy. Is China communist, capitalist, or Confucian? What is the legacy of Mao? Can the Chinese economy keep the heat alive? How does China see the world? Business leaders, prominent scholars, and leading economists and scientists will tackle these questions and more.
