
Margaret Spellings
is a senior advisor at the US Chamber of Commerce. Formerly, Spelling was the US Secretary of Education. She has worked to enforce the No Child Left Behind Act, to implement academic competitiveness grants, and to recommend higher education reforms. She also served as assistant to the president for domestic policy, creating policies on education, immigration, health care, labor, transportation, justice, housing, and other elements of the Bush administration’s domestic agenda. Previously, she was a senior advisor to Governor George W. Bush with responsibility for developing and implementing education reforms and policies in Texas, where her work included a state reading initiative and school-assessment and accountability systems.
