
Sandra Day O’Connoris an American jurist who served as an associate justice of the US Supreme Court from 1981 until her retirement in 2006. She served on the Arizona Court of Appeals and Maricopa County Superior Court as well as in the Arizona State Senate, and before that she was assistant attorney general of Arizona, a civilian lawyer in the Quartermaster Corps in Germany, and deputy county attorney of San Mateo County, California. She currently serves as chancellor of the College of William and Mary, and she is the author of Lazy B: Growing Up on a Cattle Ranch in the American Southwest, The Majesty of the Law, and two children’s books. O’Connor received the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in 2009. That same year, O’Connor launched OurCourts.org, now iCivics.org, a website offering interactive civics lessons that demonstrate to students and teachers how government works.
