is co-founder and executive director of The Forum for Youth Investment. Previously, Pittman worked on the executive team of the International Youth Foundation and with General Colin Powell to create America’s Promise. She was also director of the President's Crime Prevention Council under Bill Clinton. Formerly, Pittmann was vice president at the Academy for Educational Development, where she founded and directed the Center for Youth Development and Policy Research and the National Training Institute for Community Youth Work. And, for six years, she worked at the Children’s Defense Fund. A widely published author, Karen has written three books, dozens of articles on youth issues, and is also a regular columnist for Youth Today. Pittman has served on numerous boards and panels, and is the recipiant of many awards.
